A large brown oval in the atmosphere of Jupiter,photographed by the Voyager 1 spacecraft on March 2,1979. The oval may be an opening in the upper cloud deck. It was seen in the planet's northern hemisphere. Features of this kind are relatively common on Jupiter & have an average lifetime of 1-2 years.
