MODEL RELEASED. Electrocardiogram (ECG) stress. An elderly male heart patient exercises on a bicycle while an ECG machine (at right) measures his heartbeat. ECG stress tests are used to monitor heartbeat in cases of angina (pain in the chest) or after a heart attack. The patient has six electrodes attached to his chest. The electrodes record the electrical impulses that immediately precede contraction of the heart muscle. The ECG machine (at right) displays the patients heartbeat as a moving trace on screen and paper. A technician (at left) measures blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer on the right arm of the patient | |
