MODEL RELEASED. CT scanning. Female patient under- going an upper-body CT (Computed Tomography or CAT) scan. The patient lies on a mobile table, positioned head first at the circular scanner through which she will pass. CT scanning involves the use of directing thin beams of X-rays through the patient from the rim of the circular scanner. The images produced by these beams are combined by a computer to produce cross-sectional "slices" through the body. CT scans produce good contrast between soft tissues and bone, and are useful in diagnosing cancerous tumours and other diseases. Photographed at Tameside Hospital,Britain | |
