Malaria parasites. Image 10 of 10. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of malaria sporozoites in mosquito salivary glands. The sporozoites (Plasmodium sp.,yellow) develop after the mosquito (Anopheles sp.) feeds on an infected human. They migrate to the salivary glands (red),move into the central salivary duct (dark blue area),and are injected into a human as the mosquito feeds. Malaria later infects human red blood cells, causing fevers, anaemia and even death. Magnification: x600 at 5x7cm size. For the complete malaria parasite life cycle, see images M210/207-216 | |
