MODEL RELEASED. Solar keratosis on the nose of a 75-year-old man. This pre-cancerous growth is caused by sun damage. The damage occurs years before the lesion appears. Solar,or actinic, keratoses are mostly found on areas of skin that are exposed to the sun most often, including the backs of hands and the face. The removal of such growths is necessary,as they can become cancerous. Solar keratoses may be removed by scraping, freezing with liquid nitrogen or surgery. New keratoses often appear at or near the site of a previous keratosis,so regular check-ups are needed | |
