Richardson (bearded,at lower right),is performing one of Gray's experiments,demonstrating electrical attraction between a charged glass rod and a soap bubble. Gray discovered that electrical charge could be transferred between objects. His experiment sending an electrical communication,or telegraph,over a distance of 198 metres,performed at Faversham,England in 1729,is illustrated at upper centre.
