Dolly cloning technique (first of 5 pictures). Light micrograph of a sheep egg before removal of its DNA during cloning of "Dolly",the first sheep cloned from an adult cell. At centre is a sheep egg cell. At left a pipette holds the egg; at right a needle will penetrate the egg to remove its DNA. The empty egg cell will then be injected with a sheep udder cell. A spark of electricity fuses these cells into one & stimulates an embryo to grow. The embryo is implanted into the womb of a surrogate sheep. Research conducted by Dr Wilmut at the Roslin Institute,Edinburgh,Scotland. (see photos G285/038,G285/039,G285/040,G285/041) | |
