Roman mosaic depicting Virgil seated between two muses. Virgil or Publius Vergilius Maro (70-19 BC) was a Roman poet. A muse,in Roman and Greek mythology,was one of nine goddesses who inspired artists. On Virgil's left is Melpomene,the muse of tragedy and on his right is Clio,the muse of history.
