View of Peyto Lake in the Banff National Park,Canada. Peyto Lake is fed by meltwater from glaciers. As a result, the lake is full of silt and minerals giving it the almost opaque blue colour when seen from a distance. Further evidence of past glaciation is seen in the valley at right; note the steep upper slopes and shallower 'scree' (debris) slopes below. These are typical of glaciated 'U'-shaped valleys. Most of the scree slopes are covered by woodland. Banff National Park is in the Rocky Mountain range,on the border between Alberta and British Columbia | |
