Dragonfly nymph fossils. These nymphs of the extinct species of dragonfly Libellula doris have been fossilised in sediment. They lived in the Upper Miocene era, around 20 million years ago. Details of their heads, segmented bodies and legs are clearly visible, and show many similarities to insect groups alive today. Their bodies measure 20 millimetres across.
