Volcanic eruption. Night view of an eruption on Stromboli. The bright lines show the trajectories of lava bombs, blocks of molten rock, thrown out by the volcano. Despite the impressive appearance of this eruption,Stromboli presents little danger. Almost permanently active, the volcano is releasing gas and lava pressure gradually and is thus very unlikely to erupt explosively. This type of constant venting is known as Strombolian activity. Stromboli is 924 metres high, and forms an island to the north of Sicily | |
