Tsunami. Artwork of a giant sea wave (tsunami) caused by the explosion of the Krakatoa or Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait,Indonesia on 27 August 1883. The explosion, which created the smoke in the background, created waves which were up to 35 metres high and travelled up to 13,000 kilometres. These waves killed at least 32,000 people along the coasts of the nearby islands of Java and Sumatra. Artwork of the tsunami reaching Anger,Java; this town was 40 kilometres from Krakatoa, and only a handful of its inhabitants survived. Although the volcano was destroyed by the explosion,it reappeared in 1928 and has continued to grow | |
