Hurricane Ernesto. Satellite image of hurricane Ernesto over eastern Cuba on 28th August 2006. At this point Ernesto was classified as a tropical storm. It was downgraded after being at hurricane strength for only 10 hours on the 27th August. Thousands were evacuated to higher ground in Cuba as the storm bought torrential rains. It is predicted that Ernesto will regain hurricane strength as it heads towards Florida,USA (upper left of Cuba). Ernesto was the first hurricane of the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season.
