Portrait of Adam Sedgwick 1867. Sedgwick once acted as a mentor to the student Charles Darwin in Cambridge. But he wrote a harsh review of a presentation of Darwin's Origin of Species ideas in the Edinburgh review of 1860. He had written an even more scathing review of Chamber's evolutionary "Vestiges of Creation" some ten years earlier.
