Osler began his career at McGill University,Montreal,Canada,before becoming the first professor of medicine (1889) at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore,USA. In 1905 he became a professor at Oxford University,UK. Considered the father of modern medicine,he contributed towards reforms of medical education,founding the practice of residency where medical students received practical training in hospitals.
