Juvenile wood mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus) climbing in a hedge. This small rodent is common throughout Europe. Although its natural habitat is in woodland,it is highly adaptable and is now found in a wide variety of habitats. It digs a system of tunnels in which to live, and stores food there for the winter. The wood mouse feeds on berries, nuts, seedlings and fungi. It can reach a length of around ten centimetres, excluding the tail. Photographed in August,in Dorset,UK | |
