This photograph appeared in 'The Pencil of Nature' (1844),a brief historical sketch of the invention of the art of photography. This photograph dates from before September 1844,and is by British pioneer of photography William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877). Calotypes used paper coated with silver iodide to capture photographic images. Salted paper prints were produced using paper coated with silver chloride.
