The village of Toll Bar near Doncaster,South Yorkshire, was one of many places hit by unprecedented floods in June 2007,after 5 inches (127 millimetres) of rain fell in 24 hours. The village was cut off for a week. The summer floods hit thousands of people and cost the government and insurance industry billions of pounds. Global warming is likely to lead to far more frequent extreme weather events like this ,with low lying areas becoming increasingly vulnerable | |
