Florence Sabin (1871-1953,centre),US medical researcher,seated at a desk. Sabin studied and taught anatomy and histology. Sabin pioneered the role women could play in science. Among the firsts she achieved were a full professorship at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (1917),and the first woman elected to the National Academy of Sciences (1924).
