MODEL RELEASED. Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) skeleton preparation. Conservator Abdi Hedayat from the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen inspects a sperm whale flipper while holding its shoulder bone. These bones came from a whale first found stranded on Henne Strand,Jutland,Denmark. It measured 14 meters in length and weighed an estimated 30 tonnes. Whale flippers have bones that are homologous to a human arm and hand. The skeleton,which includes around 150 bones plus a huge skull will be assembled for public display at the Museum | |
