Mudge's balsam inhaler,English,circa 1780. This inhaler,made of pewter,was used to treat respiratory disorders such as colds and bronchitis. Hot water and a pungent medicinal balsam were put in the inhaler,and the steam and balsam vapours were inhaled via a tube connected to the hole in the top.
