Cape York meteorite,Greenland. 19th-century artwork of the largest fragment of the Cape York meteorite found in Greenland being winched off a ship. This fragment,called 'Ahnighito' (The Tent),weighed over 30 tons. Used as a source of iron by Inuit for centuries,it impacted the Earth around 10,000 years ago. The Ahnighito fragment was discovered by US explorer Robert Peary in 1894,and over the following three years he arranged for its transport to the USA.
