Radiotherapy calibration. Scientist setting up equipment used to calibrate radiotherapy machines across the UK. This is a linear accelerator (linac). It is able to emit different types and strengths of radiation. Here,a beam of photons will be focused on a block of graphite and the amount of emitted radiation absorbed will be measured. This is equivalent to the dose absorbed by a patient. Data from these tests are used to calibrate the instruments that hospitals use to measure doses prior to treatment.
