Delbruck and Stanley. German-US biophysicist Max Delbruck (1906-1981) discussing viruses with US biochemist Wendell Meredith Stanley (1904-1971). Delbruck shared the 1969 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries in bacterial genetics and the resistance of bacteria to viral diseases. Stanley,the first to isolate and characterise the tobacco mosaic virus,shared the 1946 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
