Pre-D-Day landings bombings. Bomb-cratered target area at the V-1 launching and storage site at Beauvoir,France. This area was bombed twelve times by the Ninth Air Force unit of the US Air Force as part of the preparations for the D-Day landings. The V-1 was a flying bomb developed and used by Nazi Germany in the later stages of World War II. The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 were the largest seaborne invasion in history.
