Homo habilis model. Reconstruction of a specimen of Homo habilis using a stone tool. H. habilis lived 2-1.6 million years ago and had a wide distribution in Africa. The name means 'handy human',referring to the fact that it was skilled at making and using tools. These tools would be carved out of stones and animal bones. H. habilis was a meat-eater. It is thought that it was the first truly human species on Earth. Reconstruction by Elisabeth Daynes of the Daynes Studio,Paris,France | |
