A conglomerate is a sedimentary rock composed of rounded clasts (pebbles and boulders) that are bonded together in a fine grained matrix. The rounding indicates that the clasts have been subject to wear in a river bed, glacier or on the seashore prior to their final deposition and cementation. When containing unrounded pebbles the rock is called a breccia. This sample is of a polished slab, measuring 60 x 90 cm. Provenance unknown | |
