Rodney Allen Brooks (born 1954),Australian roboticist,with the head of the Cog humanoid robot. The robot's view is seen on the screens in the background. Brooks received his PhD in computer science from Stanford University,California,USA,in 1981 and joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT),USA,in 1984. He was Director of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Laboratory at MIT from 1997 to 2007. The MIT AI Lab's robots included the humanoid Cog (developed from 1990),Kismet,and the walking quadrupeds Macaco and Coco. Co-founder of the iRobot Corporation (1990),he founded Heartland Robotics (now Rethink Robotics) in 2008 |
