Partial lunar eclipse. Composite sequence of the Moon over water during the partial lunar eclipse of 4 June 2012. Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon. A partial lunar eclipse occurs when only a portion of the Moon is fully eclipsed, passing into the Earth's umbra. This sequence moves from left to right, with the shaded portion increasing in size and the rest of the Moon dimming as well as is passed within the Earth's penumbra (known as a penumbral eclipse). This eclipse lasted around 2 hours. Photographed from Chascomus,Argentina | |
