Anglo-Saxon lead book cover,19th-century artwork. The title is in runic characters. The inscription in Anglo-Saxon Latin starts: 'I,Aelfric,monk and mass-priest,was sent in King Aethelred's time from Aelfheah the bishop,the successor of Aethelwold,to a certain minister called Cerne.' This is the start of the Anglo-Saxon homilies by Aelfric of Eynsham (c.955-c.1010). The book cover was found in the grounds of the abbey at Bury St Edmond's,Suffolk,UK.
