BD+20 307 planetary collision. Artwork of planets colliding in orbit around the BD+20 307 binary system, located about 300 light years from Earth in the constellation of Aries. Unlike collisions early in the history of a planetary system,it is thought this one has taken place in a mature system, involving planets that may have been Earth-like and supporting life,as shown here. The collision would have destroyed all life, leaving a ring of dust glowing in infra-red that has been detected from Earth. The results of this research were published in 2008 | |
