Mechta-Afalou head model. Reconstruction of a Mechta-Afalou head based on fossils found at Afalou in Algeria (1967). These fossils date from 25,000 to 8,000 years ago. The Mechta-Afalou people were a form of early humans (Homo sapiens) that inhabited northern Africa. The markers on the cast of the fossil skull indicate the thickness of the skin that will be sculpted during the modelling process. Reconstruction by the Daynes Studio,Paris,France | |
