1860 solar eclipse observation. Drawing by British artist Joseph Bonomi the Younger (1796-1878) of the darkening of the sky during the total solar eclipse of 18 July 1860. The path of totality for this eclipse passed across North America, the northern Atlantic,Spain, and parts of North Africa. A partial solar eclipse was visible from a much wider region, including all of Europe. Bonomi observed the eclipse on one of several expeditions from the UK that travelled to Spain (these included Warren De La Rue and Lord Lindsay). Bonomi observed the eclipse from a hill near the village of Rivabellosa, near Miranda de Ebro, northern Spain | |
