Japanese Red Cross. Artwork of the Japanese Red Cross (Nihon Sekijujisha) caring for wounded soldiers in April 1904,during the Russo-Japanese War. Stretcher-bearers are bringing the wounded of both sides to tents where medical personnel tend to their injuries. The Japanese Red Cross also tended to many Russian prisoners-of-war. Many tens of thousands of soldiers died or were wounded during this conflict, which eventually resulted in a victory for Japan. The Japanese Red Cross traces its origins to 1877,adopting its current name in 1887 when it was admitted to the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) | |
