Magnetism experiment. 19th-century artwork of an experiment being carried out with two permanent bar magnets (one at left, one in hand),an iron bar,and an iron nail. The permanent bar magnet at left was used to magnetise the iron bar (temporary magnet),which was in turn used to attract and suspend an iron nail. The other permanent bar magnet (in hand) has been used to neutralise the temporary magnet (due to the opposite pole being used),causing the nail to demagnetise and fall downwards. Artwork from the 4th volume (second period of 1889) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree' | |
