Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) male crowing while displaying on the lek. The lek is a type of animal territory in which males of certain species gather to demonstrate their prowess before or during the mating season. The black grouse is a gamebird found in bogs and on moorland across northern Eurasia. The male (cock) is also called the blackcock,as its black plumage distinguishes it from the grey plumage of the female (greyhen). In the background is the mountain Lochnagar (1155 metres).
