Nile crocodile hatchlings

| Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) hatchlings in a laboratory. This carnivorous predator reaches lengths of over six metres when fully grown. It inhabits tropical and subtropical areas of Africa,near swamps,lakes and rivers. The young,born from eggs,are initially around 30 centimetres long. They grow to around 1.2 metres in length over the next two years,before becoming independent and leaving the nest area. This laboratory is at the Pierrelatte crocodile farm (La Ferme aux Crocodiles) in southern France. Founded in 1994,this tourist attraction and research centre houses over 400 crocodiles.
