Crocodile embryo research. Researchers dissecting eggs from Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) to carry out research on the embryos. The Nile crocodile is a carnivorous predator that inhabits tropical and subtropical areas of Africa,near swamps,lakes and rivers. The females lay 25 to 80 eggs that hatch after an incubation period of three months. This work is being carried out at the Pierrelatte crocodile farm (La Ferme aux Crocodiles) in southern France. Founded in 1994,this tourist attraction and research centre includes over 400 crocodiles in a large tropical greenhouse. Photographed in 2011 | |
