Baryonyx fossil laboratory work. Palaeontologist working on fossils of a previously unknown dinosaur, which would be named Baryonyx walkeri. Here,a rotary diamond-edged dental saw is being used to remove hard rock around a vertebra, prior to using an engraving tool for more delicate work. These fossils were found in 1983 in clay pits near Dorking,UK,and excavated by a team led by Alan J. Charig and Angela C. Milner of the Natural History Museum,London,UK. Baryonyx was a fish-eating carnivore that lived around 130 million years ago, during the Cretaceous period. Photographed in 1983 | |
