Huygens probe integration. Technicians preparing the European Space Agency's Huygens probe for launch in 1997 as part of the Cassini-Huygens mission. The probe itself (between the two technicians) is attached to the rear of its heat shield. Thermal blankets and a rear cover protected it during its seven-year voyage via Venus to Titan, the largest moon of Saturn. Huygens descended to the surface of Titan in January 2005,with antennas (black) transmitting data back to Cassini. An error meant data was only received from one of the antennas. Construction was by the French Aerospatiale company. Integration took place in Germany | |
