Scott's Antarctic expedition. Historical image of the team of the Terra Nova Expedition standing by Roald Admussen's tent at the South Pole. The Terra Nova Expedition (officially the British Antarctic Expedition 1910) was led by Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912) with the objective of being the first to reach the geographical South Pole. The five-man team reached the pole on 17th January 1912 but found that a Norwegian team led by Roald Admussen (1872-1928) had beaten them to it by 33 days. Scott's entire party died on the return journey. Photographed in January 1912 | |
