Pasteur's Jubilee celebrations. Artwork of British surgeon Joseph Lister (in gown,walking up steps,1827-1912) and French chemist Louis Pasteur (being approached by Lister,1822-1895) during the jubilee at the Sorbonne,Paris,France,to mark Pasteur's 70th birthday on 27 December 1892. Pasteur is being supported due to a series of strokes he had had since 1868. Both Lister and Pasteur were revered by their peers and the public (both seen applauding and cheering here) for the work they had done to reduce disease and infection.
