Golden eagle with its prey. Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) standing on snowy ground with an artic hare (Lepus arcticus) it has caught and killed. Golden eagles are found in wilderness and mountainous areas throughout the northern hemisphere and get their name from the golden feathers they have on their head and neck.
