Moa skeletons,19th century artwork. The moa (initially classed as genus Dinornis) is an extinct,flightless bird that was found in New Zealand. This artwork shows a collection of moa skeletons in Canterbury Museum,New Zealand,in 1873. The species shown here are the Eastern moa (Dinornis crassus),Upland moa (Dinornis didformis),South Island giant moa (Dinornis giganteus) and the Heavy-footed moa (Dinornis elephantopus). Dinornis casuarinus is now considered a synonym of the Eastern moa. Several of these moas have since been reclassified in different genera | |
