Mertz Glacier Tongue calving. Sequence of satellite images showing part of the Mertz Glacier Tongue breaking away from Antarctica following the impact of Iceberg B-09B around 12-13 February. The images,from the MODIS sensor on NASA's Aqua satellite were taken on 7th (top),20th (middle) and 26th (bottom) February. In all the images,the Mertz Glacier Tongue is at left,with Iceberg B-09B at right. Iceberg B-09B is 94 by 39 kilometres,while the new Iceberg C-28 formed by this rare event is 78 by 39 kilometres.
