Honeybees (Apis mellifera) on a honeycomb. The chambers in a honeycomb are created using wax secreted by the bees. The chambers are filled with either honey (made from nectar obtained from flowers),pollen or bee eggs and larvae, and then capped with wax. Here, some of the open cells (white) contain bee eggs and larvae in various stages of development. The sealed cells contain pupating bees, which will emerge as adults. It takes approximately 21 days to complete the development from egg to adult | |
