Standing stones,Wales,at sunset. Known in Welsh as a cromlech, this structure, which was once a neolithic burial chamber, consists of large upright stones (megaliths) supporting a massive capstone. This is the Pentre Ifan cromlech. These stones were originally part of a tomb encased in a man-made hill. The hill is no longer present, leaving the stones seen here. The capstone is 5 metres long and weighs about 17 tonnes. Pentre Ifan is on the northern edge of the Mynydd Preseli hills,in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park,Dyfed,Wales |
