Bee-eater (family Meropidae) landing on a branch. Most of the birds in this family are found in Africa, southern Europe,Australia and New Guinea. As their name suggests, they predominently feed on flying insects, especially bees and wasps. A bee-eater removes the sting from the bee by hitting it on a hard surface, where the pressure of the impact extracts most of the venom from the sting. Photographed in Hungary in spring | |
