Feijoa flower (Acca sellowiana). This plant, from South America,is also called the pineapple guava plant. It is grown as an ornamental plant for its flowers, and is also grown for its edible fruit. The red/white petals are here dying back, and the reproductive parts are exposed. Pollen (yellow) is seen on the tips of the anthers (male reproductive parts) which are on top of the stamens (red). The spike at the centre of the anthers is the style, part of the female reproductive part. Pollen lands on the stigma (on top of the style) and fertilises the plant. The ovary (not seen) then develops into the plant's fruit | |
