Anaphase of cell mitosis. Image 4 of 6. Light micrograph of a bluebell cell (Endymion sp.) undergoing cell division (mitosis). A cell in the latter stages of mitosis, known as anaphase,is seen here. Individual chromosomes can be seen within the cell as orange thread like structures. The chromosomes have split into two and are being pulled to either extremity of the cell by a tubular structure known as a spindle (not visible here). Once separated, membranes will develop around each "daughter" nucleus and the cell will split into two genetically identical cells. Part of mitosis sequence, images B215/045 to B215/050 | |
